Pre-race blood testing was carried out.
The following horses were late scratchings due to the track conditions.

Due to a shower of rain prior to Race 6 Starter P Lamb advised that it would be unsafe to effect the start via the mobile barrier and subsequently this race was started by the moving start procedure.

Race 1 SPEIGHTS HANDICAP TROT Video  Video 
DIEDRE'S GOLD was slow away and galloped after 100 metres.
THE ZIGMEISTER proceeded to over-race when being restrained nearing the 1200 metres.
RENEGADE FIGHTER broke when negotiating the crossing nearing the 1100 metres.
DIEDRE'S GOLD hung inwards and struck pylons near the 1050 metres.
CRUSADER COVERGIRL gave ground on the final bend.
THE ZIGMEISTER broke nearing the 600 metres and broke again nearing the 200 metres.
Early in the run home SOLAR SAM trotted roughly and was placed in restricted room by SCOTTIE TROUBLE which shifted ground outwards in search of clear running. Driver M Heenan (SCOTTIE TROUBLE) was shown a replay and warned for the manner he drove.
 
Race 2 ROSCO CONTRACTORS PACE Video  Video 
HILARIOUS FANTASY broke as the start was effected losing its chance in the event.
SHADOWMAN, DANA DAWN and ALWAYS THERE tangled away.
CRYSTAL BROMAC and ARMA O'ROURKE locked wheels for a considerable distance in the early stages with ARMA O'ROURKE then breaking briefly after 150 metres.
GEE JAY EASTER paced roughly and lost ground near the 1850 metres.
ANIKA LINDENNY raced greenly near the 1050 metres and struck several pylons. This filly then hung inwards early in the run home.
BELLATRICKS gave ground from the 700 metres.
TILLY BROMAC was denied clear racing room in the early and middle stages of the run home.
Driver K Gill (SHADOWMAN) was warned to change her whip action.
When spoken to regarding the performance of CRYSTAL BROMAC, trainer/driver J Curtin advised that in his opinion the filly did not handle the track conditions.
When questioned regarding the performance of GEE JAY EASTER, the connections advised that the horse had worked hard in the middle stages to race parked and the effort had taken its toll over the concluding stages. Stewards requested a post-race veterinary examination of the gelding which revealed no abnormalities.
 
Race 3 M.S. MOORE CONTRACTING PACE Video  Video 
SIOUX WEST was slow away and broke shortly afterwards losing several lengths.
ZOEROTTEN, DIAMOND RULE and MAXIMUS PRIME also broke at the start.
SIOUX WEST commenced to tire on the final bend after improving three wide.
DIAMOND RULE broke near the 200 metres checking the trailing ZOEROTTEN which also broke. A warning was placed on the racing manners of DIAMOND RULE.
HERE COMES HELEN was denied clear racing room throughout the home straight.
Trainer M Cations (VALMARA) admitted a breach of Rule 864(2)(d) in that he failed to affix the side hopple carrier so as not to come adrift and was fined $100.
 
Race 4 HOTEL REEFTON MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
CRUSADER BROMAC paced roughly in the early stages and lost ground.
CHOOSY TART was obliged to race three wide without cover from the 1400 metres and commenced to tire from the 500 metres.
CRUSADER BROMAC hung inwards in the middle stages before breaking near the 400 metres. When questioned regarding the performance of this gelding trainer/driver K Adams reported that the horse had failed to handle the track conditions. CRUSADER BROMAC was treated following the race by the veterinarian after sustaining lacerations to both front coronet bands.
Driver W Higgs (ZENA MAC) reported that he dropped his whip near the 200 metres.
 
Race 5 GREG TOPP BETTA ELECTRICAL MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
MOTU MAKE A SPLASH broke in the score up briefly hampering the trailing EXTREME PRINCESS with MOTU MAKE A SPLASH losing its chance. A warning was placed on the mare's mobile barrier manners.
MOTU MAKE A SPLASH was treated by the veterinarian following the race for a minor abrasion to the off fore leg.
COLONEL CUSTARD raced wide in the early stages.
BLUES SINGER struck pylons approaching the 1000 metres. Driver G Smith was warned to make a greater effort to ensure he does not make contact with track markers.
MILLWOOD LANOCH commenced to tire from the 500 metres inconveniencing the trailing ALL NUTS N BOLTS and C A PENNY.
COLONEL CUSTARD and CHRISTIAN KNIGHT were held up on the final bend by the tiring A BETTER LOVER.
BREAK DANCE was inclined to lay outwards throughout the run home.
Driver J Curtin (ALL NUTS N BOLTS) reported that one earplug did not activate on the gelding.
When questioned regarding the performance of MILLWOOD LANOCH, driver K Barron reported that in his opinion the filly did not handle the track conditions. Stewards requested a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no abnormalities.
 
Race 6 THOMAS FREIGHT MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
SHE'S EXTREME tired on the final bend.
BISHOP BRIAN was held up for clear racing room near the 300 metres.
GOLD IN DEEP, DAG AND WASHINGTON and GEORGIE MACH were held up for clear racing room early in the run home.
TOUGH ENOUGH hung inwards near the 250 metres.
BOBBY T and JUSTOCLASSIE locked wheels briefly entering the home straight.
GOLD IN DEEP was checked and made contact with the running rail approaching the 100 metres after APACHE MOON drifted inwards. Driver S Ottley (APACHE MOON) defended a breach of Rule 869(3)(b) in that she drove carelessly when allowing her horse to shift down the track resulting in GOLD IN DEEP being checked. After viewing the replays and hearing from Miss Ottley and Stewards, the JCA upheld the charge and Miss Ottley was fined $200.
Driver R Holmes was cautioned for failing to advise Stewards that he did not activate the removable deafeners on the winner GOLD IN DEEP.
 
Race 7 ELECTRONET PACE Video  Video 
Track conditions were downgraded to Heavy prior to the start of this race.
The boring pole was removed from ARCANO prior to the start due to warming up unfavourably.
DOCTOR MCDREAMY, LIFESTYLER and FLYIN LOUIE broke at the start.
THE SMOOCHA raced wide without cover until the 800 metres.
LIFESTYLER hung inwards around the bend by the 1000 metres and struck pylons. This gelding continued to hang inwards thereafter and tired from the 600 metres.
THE SMOOCHA, DOCTOR MCDREAMY and REDBACK JARS gave ground rounding the final bend with the trailing AS KIWI AS and NOTHINGTOLAUGHABOUT being held up.
When questioned regarding the performance of THE SMOOCHA, trainer/driver J Curtin explained that the horse was obliged to work hard during the running with the effort taking its toll over the concluding stages.
 
Race 8 BUCCLEUGH'S ON HIGH INANGAHUA GREY VALLEY CUP (HCP PACE) Video  Video 
BETTY GOLIGHTLY reared as the start was effected hampering JOHNNY EYRE.
GEISHA GIRL broke at the start losing ground.
SPEEDY JACK gave ground on the final bend.
Driver G Smith (IDEAL ARDEN) briefly dropped his foot from the sulky rest over the concluding stages. Mr Smith reported to Stewards that only one earplug had activated on the horse.
 
Race 9 GREYMOUTH STAR HANDICAP PACE Video  Video 
HALSTON BROMAC broke briefly at the start before settling and breaking again shortly after losing ground.
DONEGAL CAM'S CARD broke at the start and again rounding the first bend.
ROSETTA STONE, SATORI and BANDANA also broke in the early stages.
HALSTON BROMAC struck several pylons on the first bend after being placed in restricted room when racing to the inside of SHADOW RIDER which shifted down the track. Driver R Anderson (SHADOW RIDER) was shown a replay and cautioned for the manner in which he drove.
HALSTON BROMAC over-raced in the middle stages.
DONEGAL CAM'S CARD gave ground from the 700 metres.
WHYAMIBETTOR became awkwardly placed close to the sulky of WESTBURN JEWEL near the 150 metres and had to be steadied.
Authorisation of 4th placing being awarded to HALSTON BROMAC was withheld until Stewards were satisfied that the gelding had complied with the Breaking Horse Regulations when breaking in the early stages.
Driver S Ottley (GRADUATE UNDER FIRE) was cautioned for starting wider on the track than her allocated barrier position.
 
Race 10 KEELAH FARM VETERINARY SERVICES HANDICAP TROT Video  Video 
THE PRINCE underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
SUENO, THANKSFORPLAYING, WILLIE SHINE and CHERRY LINDENNY broke at the start.
Racing into the first bend SUENO struck several pylons when attempting to improve to the inside of WILLIE SHINE. Driver G O'Reilly (SUENO) was cautioned for attempting to improve his position when insufficient room existed.
YOUNG STRANGER broke passing the 1700 metres.
Driver S Ottley (CLIFDEN CLOWERS) briefly dropped her foot from the sulky rest passing the 1000 metres.
SUENO and CHERRY LINDENNY broke with 600 metres to race.
Nearing the 600 metres WILLIE SHINE hung inwards causing driver R Holmes considerable difficulty. This gelding continued to hang inwards and struck pylons on the final bend before breaking near the 150 metres and continued in a break throughout the home straight.
HOLDON TOYASPURS tired on the final bend.
BLUE DON broke near the 300 metres.
Stewards lodged a protest under Rule 870(3) and the Breaking Horse Regulations against 4th placing being awarded to WILLIE SHINE on the grounds that this gelding continued in a break in excess of 50 metres in the final 200 metres of the race. Trainer/driver R Holmes elected not to contest the protest and WILLIE SHINE was disqualified by the JCA.
When questioned regarding the continual breaking of WILLIE SHINE Trainer R Holmes reported that he would be reassessing the immediate racing programme of the gelding. Stewards placed a warning on the racing manners of the gelding.
Authorisation of the promoted 4th placing being awarded to BLUE DON was withheld until Stewards were satisfied that the gelding had complied with the Breaking Horse Regulations when breaking on the final bend.
