Pre-race blood testing was conducted.
Following the race fall in Race 3 the remainder of the programme was put back one race with Race 10 rescheduled to 10.11pm.

Race 8 - MARLEY MOBILE PACE
Trainer D McLachlan was spoken to in relation to the racing manners of NOTHINGFORTHEMEDIA after the gelding broke over the early stages. Due to a racing manners warning being placed on NOTHINGFORTHEMEDIA two starts ago NOTHINGFORTHEMEDIA was stood down for 14 days.

Race Comments
Race 1 DUNEDIN HOLIDAY PARK TROT Video  Video 
SUNDON INVASION, SPOTLIGHT THE VALLEY and CICADA JENERIK all broke at the start with all these runners losing their respective chances.
PAT'S SUCCESS was hindered by the breaking runners through the early stages.
ARRAN CHIEF broke with 1750 metres to run with the gelding breaking again on numerous occasions thereafter.
ANOTHER DELIGHT and KATIES INVASION were both held up by the breaking ARRAN CHIEF near the 1700 metre mark.
SUNNIVUE SADONA hung throughout the running before breaking passing the 800 metre mark.
BLINK which was commencing to tire broke approaching the 200 metre mark with driver D Dunn advising the gelding had broken when under pressure.
Driver M Neilson advised the Stewards that PAT'S SUCCESS had hung throughout the running. The Stewards requested a veterinary examination of PAT'S SUCCESS which revealed no abnormalities.
 
Race 2 RICOH AMATEUR DRIVERS MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
ALEXY broke in the score up and was back off the gate by approximately four lengths at the dispatch point.
FIREBREAK broke just prior to the start with FRANCO NARTISCAPE breaking just after the start. FRANCO NARTISCAPE was eventually retired from the event.
The favourite NORTHVIEW MAJOR raced three wide without cover from the 1500 metre mark until reaching the parked position with 1100 metres to run.
FIREBREAK ran out of racing room over the concluding stages.
When questioned regarding the performance of the favoured NORTHVIEW MAJOR, driver P Anderson advised that the gelding after working hard through the middle stages had felt flat over the concluding stages of the race.
 
Race 3 STUNIN CULLEN/PINELEA FARM MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
BUSCEMI hung through the early stages.
Passing the 1400 metre mark RIGHTAROUND (J Dunn) briefly raced wider on the track when REAL SOUTH (M Neilson) shifted ground outwards.
With approximately 550 metres to run TWITCH (S McNally) which was racing in the parked position stumbled and fell dislodging Mr McNally from the sulky. As a result RIGHTAROUND (J Dunn), REAL SOUTH (M Neilson), RUSSET NORKOTAH (K Cox), EILEAN SHONA (K Grant), HOUDINI (K Butt) HEZ ONLY THE LONELY (R McIlwrick) and BUSCEMI (R Jenkins) were all severely checked in this incident. RIGHTAROUND, RUSSET NORKOTAH, EILEAN SHONA, HEZ ONLY THE LONELY and BUSCEMI all lost their drivers during this incident.
Shortly after this incident ALTAR EGO (D Dunn) was restrained then broke before settling then broke again with 250 metres to run.
Following this race drivers R Jenkins, K Cox, R McIlwrick, S McNally and J Dunn were all examined by the on-course St John Paramedics and cleared to drive. Junior horsewoman K Grant was transported to Dunedin Hospital for further examination and x-rays of her hip region. A medical clearance is required prior to Ms Grant resuming driving.
All the respective horses were examined by the club veterinarian with TWITCH being the worst effected runner after suffering abrasions to the eye region which required further treatment. BUSCEMI and HEZ ONLY THE LONELY both suffered abrasions. Trainer J McDermott advised the Stewards that TWITCH was now retired from racing as the mare is in foal.
The Stewards spoke with driver J Dunn and he advised he had not been pushed wider on the track when REAL SOUTH (M Neilson) shifted ground near the 1400 metre mark. Mr Dunn advised he elected to allow RIGHTAROUND to race outside the wheel of REAL SOUTH rather than restrain his drive. After viewing the replays no further action was required other than to remind Ms Neilson to commence her movement sooner in future circumstances.
 
Race 4 PRYDES EASIFEED TROT Video  Video 
BONO HEST, MOMENT OF LOVE and CHEEKY PAT all broke over the early stages.
After approximately 150 metres STARLIGHT STARBRIGHT and MR MAJESTIC both broke.
Shortly afterwards SPRINGFIELD EYRE which was challenging for the lead broke and failed to settle for a considerable distance.
STRATHFIELD SUN was held up just prior to the run home.
 
Race 5 MASON PLASTERERS PACE Video  Video 
PLAY ACTION tangled briefly at the start and was slow to begin.
WASHINGTONS CHANCE broke shortly after the start and shifted ground outwards inconveniencing PLAY ACTION.
Rounding the first bend GOTTA LAUGH which was racing handy to the leaders broke.
GOTTA LAUGH broke again with 1850 metres to run resulting in the trailing BORN TO DELIGHT, KILMORICH and PLAY ACTION all having to be steadied. As a result BILLY KLONDIKE which was following these runners had to be sharply restrained resulting in the gelding breaking. The connections of GOTTA LAUGH were advised that a warning was placed on the racing manners of the filly. Co-trainer J Cox advised that GOTTA LAUGH would be sent for a spell prior to resuming racing.
KILMORICH raced keenly for the majority of the event.
Over the concluding stages PEGASUS KOMMANDER (J Dunn) ran out of racing room when racing between KILMORICH (J Young) and CAESAR ROCKS (R McIlwrick).
There was a delay to the authorisation of all placings after horseman J Dunn (PEGASUS KOMMANDER) wished to view the replays of the final stages of the race. After viewing the replays Mr Dunn elected not to proceed any further and all placings were duly authorised.
Junior horseman R McIlwrick (CAESAR ROCKS) was shown a replay of the final stages and reminded of his obligations to maintain a straight line in the run home.
 
Race 6 KEV JARVIS BUILDING LTD MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
SMOKIN BIRD was inspected by the club veterinarian pre-race and cleared to race.
AVEROSS RUSTLER which improved to the lead near the 1800 metre mark raced fiercely in the lead throughout.
HESTIA FRANCO paced roughly near the 1750 metres.
SMOKIN BIRD raced keenly when caught in the parked position through the middle stages.
HESTIA FRANCO paced roughly and broke with 1300 metres to run losing its chance.
With 200 metres to run SPIRIT OF CHRONOS which was hanging broke.
Driver M Williamson advised the Stewards that the favourite SMOKIN BIRD had tired over the later stages after being caught parked on a fast pace.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of MADDISON HILL, trainer C Chalmers advised the Stewards that MADDISON HILL had been unlucky in its previous starts and had received an economical trip this evening and he had expected a forward showing from the mare.
Stewards requested a post-race veterinary examination of SMOKIN BIRD which revealed no abnormalities.
 
Race 7 WASHINGTON VC FILLIES & MARES MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
VENETO broke in the score up and was back out of position at the start.
THINKING SMART hung through the early stages.
EXTREME JAY hung during the running.
EXTREME JAY broke with 300 metres to run. Co-trainer J Cox advised that he would not be persevering with EXTREME JAY from his stable.
 
Race 8 G J GARDNER MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
HERE COMES FALCON was a late scratching on veterinary advice after suffering an injury while being transported to the race meeting.
Racing into the first bend FOUR STARZZZ SHIRAZ had to be steadied when crossed over by HIGHLAND REIGN (J Young).
WOODLEA DJ raced keenly during the running.
FOUR STARZZZ SHIRAZ paced roughly near the 900 metre mark and raced wider on the track. Driver J Dunn reported that FOUR STARZZZ SHIRAZ locked on one rein and proved difficult to steer.
WOODLEA DJ was held up rounding the final bend.
Junior horsewomen J Young (HIGHLAND REIGN) was warned for the manner in which she drove approaching the first bend pursuant to Rule 869(4) when tightening FOUR STARZZZ SHIRAZ on her inside.
 
Race 9 SPEIGHTS HANDICAP TROT Video  Video 
SPRINGBANK EDEN bounded for a few strides at the start.
FACE VALUE which was slow to begin broke after approximately 100 metres losing all chance.
GOODBOY TIGER hung during the running.
GLENDALOCH was held up round the final bend.
SPRINGBANK EDEN trotted roughly round the final bend and had to be steadied by driver M Williamson with Mr Williamson advising he elected not to activate the removal deafeners.
Driver S McNally (GLENDALOCH) dropped his foot from the sulky when activating the removable deafeners in the home straight.
 
Race 10 DUNEDIN CITY FORD MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
Driver K Grant (WINSTONE P) was replaced by C Kennett after she suffered an injury in Race 3.
No claims were lodged for this race.
At the point of the first bend WINSTONE P (C Kennett) struck several pylons when racing to the inside of MOTU SPEEDY STAR (C Ferguson) and FRANCO CALIPH (R McIlwrick). Mr McIlwrick was warned pursuant to Rule 869(3)(b) for the manner he drove tightening WINSTONE P onto the pylons on the first bend.
MIKE MCKAID raced keenly after reaching the lead at the 1400 metre mark.
CULLENS SPIRIT struggled to maintain contact with the body of the field throughout the race. A warning was placed on the racing performance of the gelding. Trainer M Denton advised he would be reassessing the future racing prospects of CULLENS SPIRIT.
ELUSIVE FLIGHT and JERRY FITZ were both flushed wide on the final bend when attempting to improve their position.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of MOTU SPEEDY STAR, trainer E Latimer advised that tonight's race was a significant drop in class, MOTU SPEEDY STAR had a favourable draw and received an economical trip.
