It was subsequently established that the off side sulky wheel had become locked placing SWEET ART at a considerable disadvantage. This sulky was inspected by Stewards following the event however both wheels were found to be functioning correctly. Driver S Phelan stated when questioned that the axle bolt may have shifted causing the wheel to lock however the axle nut was still intact on returning to the stabling area and that the wheel had been able to be corrected with minimal effort on his part.
Authorisation of the 3rd placing of STYX IT TO EM (M McKendry) was withheld at the request of Driver P Ferguson (LISDELIGHT) to enable him to ascertain whether he had grounds for a Protest after LISDELIGHT had been obliged to race three wide from the 800 metres after he shifted out to give room for STYX IT TO EM to move out off the back of SWEET ART. After viewing the incident with the Panel Mr Ferguson elected not to proceed with a Protest and placings were duly authorised.
