GOLD ACE from better draws in its previous races has been sent forward to lead in contrast to tonight's event where after drawing the widest position 8 behind the mobile gate was restrained toward the rear similarly to SKY MAJOR drawn on its inside. Mr Reid said he had instructed Mr Mitchell to restrain the horse from its wide draw and save the horse for one run. Mr Mitchell in answer to a question as to why he did not improve the horse from the rear from inside the 1200 metres when the sectionals were of more moderate rate, stated he would have followed SKY MAJOR which he was trailing, if it improved but this did not eventuate. Both SKY MAJOR and GOLD ACE improved 3 wide from inside the 500 metres. The leader, OHOKA PUNTER, ran the last 400 metres in a slick 26.6 leaving them little chance to make up ground.
