Pre-race blood testing was carried out.
Trainer M Gibbs advised in accordance with Rule 403(2)(m) that his mare VICTOR IDEAL a runner in Race 5 is racing in foal (60 days).
Trainer F Phelan advised that COUGAR BROMAC a runner in Race 9 would be racing in a Cornell Collar to assist the mare's respiratory problem.

Race 1 ASHFORD PARK OTAKI BACKPACKERS HANDICAP TROT Video  Video 
AUSSIE JACK was slow away.
DESERT STORM broke over the initial stages and failed to settle taking no further part in the event. This gelding was declared ineligible for 14 days up to and including the 30th of January 2015.
WINSOME LUCK broke for a couple of strides travelling over the crossing.
ESPRESSO SHOT, AUSSIE JACK, STUEY D and SPRINGFIELD HUGH all became unbalanced travelling over the crossing making mistakes, with ESPRESSO SHOT losing considerable ground and its chance, SPRINGFIELD HUGH and STUEY D losing several lengths.
SPRINGFIELD HUGH broke again passing the 1200 metres losing its chance.
CHILTONS VOCATION struck a pylon entering the final straight.
 
Race 2 MCMILLAN EQUINE FEEDS AT FARMLANDS HANDICAP TROT Video  Video 
A Minor Infringement Notice was issued and a $50.00 fine imposed on Trainer M Salaivao for the late notification of a gear change for NO ORDINARY SUN. A pacifier was added to the gelding's gear.
BIM BOM BAY, NO ORDINARY SUN and COOL SON all became unbalanced travelling over the crossing going into a break.
HECTOR MCFECKLE broke free of interference inside the 400 metres.
BURT MUNRO, MA CILLE and COOL SON were all held up over the early stages of the run home.

AQUICKONE broke for some distance during the score up taking no part in the event. A warning has been placed against the filly's racing manners. The connections advised that they will be making gear changes for the second day including the addition of a pacifier and a change of bit.
SAVANNAH MAGUIRE broke shortly after the start, when attempting to improve to a forward position, settling toward the rear. A warning was placed on the filly's mobile barrier manners.
WASHINGTON DIVA paced roughly passing the 1600 metres.
ANALEIGH was held up for clear racing room over the initial stages of the run home.
ROYAL KATE shifted ground outward late in the run home when under pressure.
FRACTURE had a gear malfunction passing the 150 metres.
A Minor Infringement Notice was issued and a $100 fine imposed on Driver S Abernethy for failing to report a gear malfunction on FRACTURE. The centre hopple carrier came adrift.
A Minor Infringement Notice was issued and a $100 fine imposed on Trainer J Abernethy for failing to affix the centre hopple carrier strap so as not to come adrift on FRACTURE.

BILLY THE BAD, which was fractious in behind the mobile gate, failed to step away during the score up taking no further part in the event. Trainer J Abernethy was advised that a warning would be placed against the gelding's mobile barrier manners.
HYBRID was held up over the early stages of the run home.
CELANDINE was held up rounding the final bend and in the early stages of the run home.
Driver D Butcher advised that he did not activate the hopple shortener pins on the winner MAJOR CHANGE. He stated that the hopple length was shortened by one hole to assist the horse over the crossing.
 
Race 5 TFS HORSE TRANSPORT MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
Trainer M Gibbs advised in accordance with Rule 403(2)(m) that his mare VICTOR IDEAL a is racing in foal (60 days).
VICTOR IDEAL was slow to move away from the pre-race circle and was three lengths back from the unruly position at the start.
VICTOR IDEAL paced roughly and then broke passing the 800 metres when racing at the rear losing its chance. A warning was placed on the racing manners record of this mare.
MALDINI was held up for clear racing room until inside the 100 metres.
 
Race 6 BOUNDARY TAP & KITCHEN AT RAUMATI BEACH MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
MIRO BAY became unbalanced travelling over the crossing and galloped veering outwards causing a bad check to RANGI RANGDU. MIRO BAY settled at the rear of the main body of the field and RANGI RANGDU lost several lengths settling in arrears of the main body of the field. RANGI RANGDU recovered to catch the field with 1200 metres to run and from five deep on the running line ran on well to finish fourth.
SAMBUCA JOE pulled fiercely during the middle stages before being improved to three wide without cover inside the 1000 metres.
JACK BATES broke free of interference with 200 metres to run. A warning was placed on this gelding's racing manners.
MIRO BAY failed to get clear racing room until inside the final 80 metres.
 
Race 7 RAILWAY HOTEL OTAKI CUP PRELUDE (HANDICAP PACE) Video  Video 
Trainer R Richardson (LISDELIGHT) was charged a $25 colour fee.
The start of the race was delayed one minute at the request of TAB Control.
ACES N EIGHTS and WYATT EARP were both fractious at the start and were slow away.
LOFTY BROGDEN broke for a few strides at the start settling quickly.
STORMY BREEZE and LOFTY BROGDEN were both held up over the early and middle stages of the run home.
GOLDEN DELIGHT was held up throughout the run home and failed to get clear racing room.
The favourite MAJOR STAR made a good beginning to race to the lead passing the 1600 metres. MAJOR STAR led the field in for the run home but was under pressure passing the 300 metres and weakened to finish 11th, eight lengths in arrears of the winner. Trainer/Driver B Mangos could offer no explanation for its disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities other than a slow recovery rate.
 
Race 8 BEACH FM 106.3 MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
UNMISSUBLE became unbalanced when negotiating the crossing, galloping inconveniencing the trailing PRINCESS KATE, FRANCO LENNOX, CUT THE CARDS, LISA'S LAWYER and FLYIN LOUIE. UNMISSUBLE recovered settling toward the rear of the field.
STORMY LONDON was inclined to over race from inside the 1000 metres when racing three deep on the running line.
PRINCESS KATE and STORMY LONDON were both held up until 200 metres to run.
PRINCESS KATE paced roughly over the final 100 metres.
 
Race 9 KAPITI TEN PIN BOWLING FILLIES & MARES MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
Trainer F Phelan advised that COUGAR BROMAC, which has a respiratory issue, would be racing in a Cornell Collar.
SOUL HANOVER broke shortly after the start and as a result caused interference to MISS PEMBROKE, which in turn caused interference to BETTY BOOP BROGDEN dislodging Driver S Lawson. BETTY BOOP BROGDEN was pulled up. A warning was placed on the mobile barrier manners of SOUL HANOVER. Medical staff examined Horseman S Lawson and he was cleared to take his drives for the second day of this meeting.
Junior Drivers A Poutama (CLASSIC BET) and S Kane (COUGAR BROMAC) were both warned to correct their whip action.
An information was lodged alleging that Junior Horseman A Drake (with the assistance of Senior Horseman Z Butcher) was in breach of Rule 869(2)(a) in that he used his whip excessively when driving EYRE HOSTESS over the concluding stages. The charge was admitted and the JCA imposed a $200 fine.
 
Race 10 INTERISLANDER SUMMER FESTIVAL AT OTAKI SUNDAY MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
Trainer D Jones was issued with a Minor Infringement Notice and fined $100 after presenting TAFADHALI to race without the notified removable deafeners.
WESTBURN COURAGE went off stride and broke shortly after the start losing several lengths before settling at the rear of the field. A warning was placed on the mobile barrier manners of this gelding.
CLASSIEGENT paced roughly for a short distance near the 1900 metres.
OUR WICKLOW was obliged to race wide over the early stages until near the 1800 metres.
WESTBURN COURAGE was held up for a short distance near the 400 metres.
BETTORS CARD was held up rounding the final bend and over the early stages of the home run until obtaining clear running near the 200 metres.
BUTE MACH was held up for some distance in the home straight until shifting outwards near the 100 metres to obtain clear running.
Trainer/Driver J Abernethy was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on PACIFIC RAPTURE. In particular the reasons why he elected to shift his horse outwards near the 300 metres when there was an opportunity to do so entering the final straight. In response Driver J Abernethy stated that the mare is best saved for one run, when unable to use its gate speed due to its draw, and he believed that on this occasion it was his best option to sit for as long as possible. PACIFIC RAPTURE was tried inside the last 300 metres and came to the end of its run approaching the 50 metres. Mr Abernethy advised that PACIFIC RAPTURE has been racing in foal (100 days) and that its upcoming race on Sunday, the second day of this meeting, will be its last.
JET BLACK SHADOW when in the lead passing the 1000 metres its offside sulky shaft came adrift from its saddle.This disadvantaged Driver B Mangos and the gelding for the remainder of the event. An investigation established that the Quickhitch tip had come away from the sulky shaft but the tip was still connected to the saddle. The Stewards inspected the sulky and deemed that Trainer N Chilcott was not at fault. Stewards recommended modifications to the sulky to ensure that there would be no re-occurrence.
