Selected horses were subjected to pre-race blood testing.
A Judicial hearing was held to hear an information laid against horseman Mitchell Kerr alleging a breach of Rule 505(1). The details of which were that as the driver of WEBB ELLIS at the Westport Trotting Clubs meeting on the 26th of December, M Kerr did place a combination bet which included his runner in Race One. Mr Kerr admitted the breach and after considering the facts and submissions on penalty Mr Kerr was fined the sum of $650.

Race 1 NELSON MAIL/THE CAR COMPANY TROT Video  Video 
DIEDRE'S GOLD and SUCCESS EXPRESS broke at the start.
EVERYBODY KNOWS was slow to begin and settled some distance from the back of the field in consequence.
ROCKNPOP, THE PRINCE and MISTRESS CASTLETON all broke over the early stages.
DIEDRE'S GOLD broke again rounding the first bend near the 1900 metres.
Nearing the 1000 metres TWELVE MONKEYS broke when leading, losing ground as a result.
EVERYBODY KNOWS broke when passing the 800 metres.
TWELVE MONKEYS again broke at the 600 metres.
CONTELLA was held up on the final bend by the weakening LOCH FORWARD.
THE PRINCE was removed from the unruly for upcoming standing starts at the request of trainer W Jennens.
 
Race 2 JENNEX SIGNS PACE Video  Video 
SHADOWMAN broke at the start losing its chance. Stewards placed a warning on the geldings barrier record.
LOUIE FINN was forced to start from one position wider on the second row when BONNIE BLUE did not take up its position behind the barrier strand. Stewards spoke with Driver J Williams regarding this and a warning was placed on the record of BONNIE BLUE.
CELANDINE began awkwardly.
CHINA EXPRESS paced roughly on the first bend and again on several occasions during the running.
Nearing the 1200 metres MAJOR OVERDRIVE broke losing its chance. As a result of this MOTU BLAZING SPIRIT, LOUIE FINN and CHINA EXPRESS were all inconvenienced. Stewards spoke with Trainer/Driver G Smith and after doing so placed a warning on the filly's racing record.
GO GIRL raced keenly through the middle stages.
BONNIE BLUE gave ground from the 400 metres.
 
Race 3 KAHURANGI ESTATE/NJ BUSINESS SERVICES MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
The start was abandoned when the outside number on DONEGAL STAR GRETCH came adrift in the score up. This number disc and the inside number disc, were both unable to be reattached and in consequence DONEGAL STAR GRETCH raced numberless.
JOHNNY JET broke at the start losing a considerable amount of ground. Stewards placed a warning on its mobile barrier record.
DONEGAL STAR GRETCH hung in severely when being restrained to take cover passing the 1600 metres.
PESCADO broke nearing the 400 metres losing its chance. When questioned regarding this, Driver K Gill explained the mare had cross-fired and she would be making gear changes.
 
Race 4 TOWN & COUNTRY VET PACE Video  Video 
CAESAGOLD was a length back at the start. Driver J Williams was cautioned to make a better effort to take up her rightful position in future.
BETTOR LUCK broke at the start.
SIFTY TUESDAY raced roughly through the straight on the first occasion.
 
Race 5 CROWE HORWATH/FIRST SECURITY HANDICAP TROT Video  Video 
B Rochford was fined $100 under the minor infringement schedule for presenting COLONEL KLINK without the notified fixed hood.
RARANGI JEWEL had its rein-pricker removed prior to the start due to warming up unfavourably.
ALL ROYAL GAL and THANKSFORPLAYING broke as the start was effected, inconveniencing GLENDALOCH which had to shift wider to continue to improve.
Racing around the first bend near the 2700 metres, PAMMYS BOY broke.
COLONEL KLINK broke passing the 2300 metres which inconvenienced SUMMER VACATION.
SPEEDY SUCCESS commenced to tire from the 600 metres inconveniencing KERRYN KYLIE and PAMMYS BOY. The stewards placed a warning on the geldings racing performance.
COLONEL KLINK broke passing the 400 metres losing its chance.
 
Race 6 SPEIGHTS/NELSON BUILDING SOCIETY HANDICAP PACE Video  Video 
WEBB ELLIS swung sideways when attempting to address the barriers. Stewards placed a final warning on the geldings barrier record.
DUNTALKIN and ROSETTA STONE broke as the start was effected.
DUNTALKIN again broke racing into the first bend.
RED UNDER FIRE raced keenly in the middle stages.
LADY GODIVA gave ground from the 300 metres. When questioned regarding the performance of his mare trainer/driver G Smith advised that he had been disappointed with the efforts of his mare. Mr Smith added that he would be having blood tests taken and undertook to notify the Stewards of anything which may come to light that could help to explain the run. A post race Veterinary examination found nothing to be amiss.
 
Race 7 TYRE GENERAL MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
FRANCO TEVEZ over raced through the middle stages and had to be steadied near the 2100 metres when awkwardly positioned close to the sulky of BEACON HILL.
Nearing the 1500 metres BEACON HILL broke when being shifted outwards into the two wide line. As a result of this SAGE CREEK and LOVEMETWOTIMES were inconvenienced when having to shift wide.
SECRET LOTION struck pylons on the final bend. Stewards spoke with J Dunn regarding this and advised him that in future it was expected he make a greater effort to avoid track markers.
 
Race 8 ROUTE 6 AUTOMOTIVE/RICHMOND TOP 10 HOLIDAY PARK MOBILE Video  Video 
TIME BALL had the blinds removed prior to the start after warming up fiercely.
AREION broke shortly after the start losing ground. Stewards placed a warning on the geldings barrier record.
ALTA MARCELLO raced greenly over the early stages and then broke leaving the bend near the 1700 metres. Trainer/driver B Weaver advised the gelding had objected to the track kickback.
AREION and TIME BALL tired from the 400 metres. A post race Veterinary examination of AREION showed the horse to be suffering from muscle tie up.
A warning was placed on the racing performance of TIME BALL.
A BETTER LOVER had to be steadied over the concluding stages when awkwardly positioned close to the sulky of TIN ROOF BLUES which was being shifted wider by driver C McDowell. Stewards will be speaking with Mr McDowell regarding this in the coming days.
Stewards spoke with R Holmes as the Driver of STRAWB'S REGAL ACT regarding the geldings performance. Mr Holmes expressed disappointment and could only attribute it to the gelding not backing up from the first day.
 
Race 9 NELSON BUILDING SOCIETY MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
DONEGAL CAM'S CARD was very reluctant to come out of the pre race formation despite assistance from the Starters attendants and the Clerks of the Course. Stewards placed a warning on the barrier record of this gelding.
Despite the urgings of D Dunn CUT LOOSE was slightly out of position at dispatch.
DANNY DEL VITO paced roughly through the early stages.
TUSCALOOSA broke nearing the 1200 metres losing its chances. When questioned regarding this Driver C Thornley explained that the gelding had objected to being steadied.
PAY ME SUSH hung inwards under pressure rounding the final bend and gave ground.
FOXY DAME was held up in the early and middle stages of the run home.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of DONEGAL CAM'S CARD the connections explained that they had changed the horses bit after it had over raced on the first day and this had allowed the gelding to relax during todays race.
 
Race 10 NELSON PINE INDUSTRIES NELSON CUP (HANDICAP PACE) Video  Video 
GRADUATE UNDER FIRE began awkwardly and raced roughly in the early stages.
MAJOR BUBBLES paced roughly and had to be steadied approaching the first bend.
REKLAW SUPREME commenced to tire from the 500 metres.
GRADUATE UNDER FIRE and BECKINSALE were held up for clear racing room in the early stages of the run home.
S Golding was unable to activate the sliding blinds on MAIDEN ROME due to the cord becoming caught. Stewards issued Mr Golding with a warning for failing to notify the Stewards of this malfunction.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of MAJOR BUBBLES driver D Dunn explained after working hard during the middle stages the gelding had been unable to finish the race off as he would have liked.

WHYAMIBETTOR raced greenly on the first turn near the 1900 metres.
ARCANO, LURAH and ARTISMEE all commenced to tire from the 400 metres.
