Driver P Butcher (BETTOR SPIRITS - 3rd place) was questioned regarding the manner in which he drove over the early and middle stages of the run home in relation to his apparent lack of vigour until late in the run home. Mr Butcher stated that BETTOR SPIRITS had commenced to over-race down the back the final time when THE BUCKET LIST improved to its outer so he elected to hold the colt up for a final effort early in the run home, however when he then went to release the deafeners BETTOR SPIRITS had shifted in which resulted in him having to take corrective action to straighten the colt. Mr Butcher further stated that BETTOR SPIRITS had failed to respond when tried with the whip on several occasions shortly afterwards and he felt the colt had given of his best considering the circumstances and sectionals recorded. | |

SOUL HANOVER was badly held up leaving the back straight the final time when STRAWBERRY MISS commenced to tire. A subsequent veterinary examination of STRAWBERRY MISS revealed no abnormalities. | |
