Race 1 TOPLINE FENCING LTD HANDICAP TROT Video  Video 
TACHMA broke at the start failing to settle and lost all chance.
Near the 1800 metres MIRI improved its position to the inside of KATIE DAWN.
OUR BUDD, FINAL SECRET and LARCH all broke at the 600 metres.
Stewards lodged a Protest against 3rd placing being awarded to MIRI pursuant to Rule 869A(3) alleging that driver D O'Connell shifted MIRI into the Passing Lane to improve his position passing the 1800 metres inside of KATIE DAWN (A Kyle). After viewing the replays and hearing evidence from Mr Kyle, Mr O'Connell and the Stewards, the JCA upheld the Protest and relegated MIRI to 10th placing behind KATIE DAWN. Mr O'Connell admitted a subsequent breach of Rule 869(3)(f) - Improper Driving and the Passing Lane Regulation 3 with the JCA after hearing submissions imposing a suspension of Mr O'Connell's horseman's licence from the conclusion of racing today up to and including 24 January (6 days) and a fine of $200.
Driver B Wallace defended a charge under Rule 868(2) alleging he failed to show sufficient vigour between the 300 metres and the 50 metres and thereby did not take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure RUBY'S JEWEL was given full opportunity to obtain the best possible position. After viewing the replays and hearing evidence and submissions from Mr Wallace, Mr P Williamson, Mr G Knight and the Stewards, the JCA reserved their decision.
Stewards will speak with driver J Lethaby (CRUSADER COVERGIRL) regarding the manner he drove during the event.
 
Race 2 GOODMAN PLUMBING LTD/L J HOOKER CROMWELL MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
The start of this event was delayed due to the Protest in the previous race.
SANTANNA MAGIC hung outwards at the start momentarily placing BARBIE BARDELL in restricted room.
BARBIE BARDELL broke briefly in the early stages.
After 150 metres BEAUDIENE GAMBLER broke hampering GO GRUNTER, MILLWOOD CHARITY, FLYIN SUE, JACLYN SMITH and FALCON ASSET. A warning was placed on the racing manners of BEAUDIENE GAMBLER. Trainer M Saunders advised BEAUDIENE GAMBLER would be not be persevered with as a racing proposition from his stable.
BARBIE BARDELL broke again with 1200 metres to run. Trainer/driver P Hunter reported the mare did not handle the grass track.
GO GRUNTER broke with 800 metres to run losing its chance with the offside hopple connecting strap breaking as a result. The gear was subsequently inspected by the Stewards and found to be in previous good condition.
JACLYN SMITH hung inwards when tiring in the run home resulting in TARANTO being forced over several pylons.
KILKENNY TURK hung inwards and broke with 150 metres to run.
MILLWOOD CHARITY was held up for clear racing room late in the run home.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of SANTANNA MAGIC, co-trainer G Knight explained that the gelding had been treated for a quarter crack subsequent to its last start. He added that he felt the horse had gained confidence in training and the stable was very confident of a bold showing from SANTANNA MAGIC after the gelding had impressed in a private workout on the course leading into today's race.
 
Race 3 INTERNATIONAL GARDEN RESCUE TROT Video  Video 
SNOW BOY broke at the start losing its chance.
BEYOND A JOKE gave ground on the final bend hampering the trailing GORILLA PLAYBOY.
GORILLA PLAYBOY broke early in the run home.
GREY POWER and ARMORI were both held up for clear racing room early in the run home.
EUROMAXX was denied clear racing room near the 150 metres. When questioned regarding this driver D Dunn explained that EUROMAXX had been trotting roughly and because of this the trailing STARLIGHT STARBRIGHT had been able to utilise the Passing Lane prior to him shifting inwards. As a result he was obliged to shift EUROMAXX outwards in search of clear running.
EUROMAXX continued to trot roughly throughout the final straight.
HENGROEN trotted roughly in the run home and broke over the concluding stages.
 
Race 4 PANSPACIFICFLIGHT@MACCA LODGE FILLIES & MARES MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
A false start was declared when BETTAKATETHANNEVA and LISABELLE both broke checking trailing runners. Driver A Armour (BETTAKATETHANNEVA) elected to remain in his allocated barrier position for the restart while driver E Swain (LISABELLE) elected to start from the Unruly position.
Warnings were placed on the mobile barrier records of BETTAKATETHANNEVA and LISABELLE.
LISABELLE broke in the score up and was back several lengths at the start and was subsequently placed on the unruly for future mobile starts at the request of trainer/driver E Swain.
CULLENS ATOM paced roughly and broke after 150 metres checking BETTAKATETHANNEVA and LEIGH MAJOR. A warning was placed on the mobile barrier manners of CULLENS ATOM.
Racing into the first bend STAR SINGER broke when challenging for the lead.
CULLENS ATOM hung outwards passing the 1200 metres.
STAR SINGER broke again near the 1100 metres and near the 900 metres losing its chance. Driver M Williamson advised the mare had failed to handle the grass track.
RESCARN broke near the 400 metres checking the trailing BEAUDIENE BEAUT BABE and CULLENS ATOM. A warning was placed on the racing manners of RESCARN.
KNYSNA hung outwards abruptly near the 350 metres despite the efforts of driver S Walkinshaw checking MISS MATTJESTY, BABY FERN, RAKARATA and NEWMANS JET with BABY FERN breaking and losing its chance. A warning was placed on the racing manners of KNYSNA.
 
Race 5 BIG JIM AT ALABAR PACE Video  Video 
PHIN'S TWIN and REAL LOVE reared prior to the start.
TOUR DIRECTOR and BALAGIO broke at the start with TOUR DIRECTOR losing all chance.
PAY ME VISA and PHIN'S TWIN broke briefly racing into the first bend.
OUTA THE FRIDGE was forced to race four wide near the 1400 metres after being shifted wider by TOM BOLA.
WAYWARD ROC, LADY VC and MY RONA GOLD had difficulty obtaining clear racing room early in the run home.
PHIN'S TWIN paced roughly and broke in the run home. Trainer K Barclay was advised that a final warning had been placed on the racing manners of PHIN'S TWIN.
Stewards lodged a Protest against 3rd placing being awarded to TOM BOLA under Rule 869A(2) alleging TOM BOLA caused interference to OUTA THE FRIDGE when forcing OUTA THE FRIDGE wider on the track near the 1400 metres. Driver C Thornley representing the connections of TOM BOLA did not contest the Protest and the JCA relegated TOM BOLA to 4th placing behind OUTA THE FRIDGE. Mr Thornley admitted a subsequent breach of Rule 869(6)(b)(c) - Push Out Rule and after hearing submissions the JCA imposed a fine of $250.
 
Race 6 GOLDEN GATE LODGE MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
VEDIKA paced roughly in the early stages.
SNIGGIHDIS paced roughly near the 900 metres losing several lengths and broke again near the 150 metres losing its chance. Driver A Armour reporting the gelding had failed to handle the grass track.
BAD KATE and DOUBLE RAINBOW were both held up for clear racing room early in the run home.
INDEFINITE was placed in restricted room near the 200 metres when DOUBLE RAINBOW (S Walkinshaw) shifted ground inwards. S Walkinshaw was shown a replay and advised to exercise care when shifting ground.
 
Race 7 PGG WRIGHTSON REAL ESTATE CROMWELL MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
BELMONT FIRE broke as the start was effected checking VAN EVA. A warning was placed on the mobile barrier manners of BELMONT FIRE.
FRANCO ENVOY hung outwards and paced roughly in the early stages.
ROCKY ROAD paced roughly rounding the final bend and continued to pace roughly throughout the final straight.
CARISMA was denied clear racing room early in the run home.
THE TISBURY TERROR paced roughly in the home straight.
 
Race 8 CROMWELL NEW WORLD PACE Video  Video 
The start was delayed due to SUE ME charging the barrier strand despite the efforts of driver R McIlwrick. Stewards placed a warning on the standing start manners of SUE ME.
STATHAM broke at the start losing considerable ground.
HALSTON BROMAC, AFELLAS BOY and VERA'S DELIGHT had difficulty obtaining clear racing room early in the run home.
PANIC SLOWLY was denied clear racing room in the early and middle stages of the run home.
Driver S Walkinshaw (ACOLYTE) briefly dropped his foot from the sulky foot-rest near the 200 metres.
CHRISTIAN GREY paced roughly near the 150 metres.
 
Race 9 THE ALABAR CROMWELL CUP (HANDICAP PACE) Video  Video 
CHIEF KAPAI broke at the start losing its chance and was retired from the event.
ONEDIN MACH was denied clear racing room in the early and middle stages of the run home.
MILLIGAN hung inwards near the 200 metres.
ULTRA SHOK (D Dunn) broke late in the run home before pacing just prior to the finishing line.
Stewards lodged a Protest against 4th placing being awarded to ULTRA SHOK pursuant to Rule 870(3) and the Breaking Horse Regulations alleging ULTRA SHOK broke in excess of 50 metres in the final 200 metres of the event. After viewing the available replays and hearing evidence from Mr Dunn and Stewards, the JCA dismissed the Protest.
 
Race 10 CROMWELL & DISTRICTS BUSINESSES CUP MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
MY GUY MAC paced roughly in the early stages when improving to the lead.
JUST NED broke when in the trailing position with 600 metres to run.
TAGATAESE paced roughly near the 400 metres.
SUNNY TWO SHOES broke with 200 metres to run. Driver B Norman reported that SUNNY TWO SHOES had stood on a shoe causing it to break.
 
Race 11 ART THE CARRIER/TIM THE FARRIER HANDICAP TROT Video  Video 
SNOW BOY was declared a late scratching after starting in Race 3.
There was a slight delay to the start of this event due to some remedial work being required to eliminate the reflection of the mirror on the winning post.
MOA BONES broke at the start effectively losing its chance.
CHIOLA BELLE broke racing into the first bend losing considerable ground.
AILE ROUGE trotted roughly rounding the first bend.
SOUTHLAND REFLECTOR broke with 900 metres to run.
ANOTHER CRUSHER broke in the run home.
 
Race 12 SBS BANK RURAL CROMWELL MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
SUPERFREAK was a late scratching at 10.22am on veterinary advice.
NEWMANS JET was declared a late scratching after starting in Race 4.
FRANCO HAMMOND broke late in the score up and was out of position at the start. Driver C Thornley reported that one hopple shortener had prematurely activated causing the gelding to become unbalanced and break.
NOAH FLYIN C C broke shortly after the start losing its chance due to the off side hopple breaking on the gelding. This gear was inspected and found to be in good condition.
BOOSTER broke approaching the first bend.
FRANCO HAMMOND over-raced when leading during the middle stages.
BET ON JESS, TAKE A GAMBLE and FIRST SON were all held up for clear racing room in the early stages of the run home.
BOLD RULER hung inwards and broke passing the 200 metres with driver P Hunter advising the gelding did not handle the grass track.
LEVI JADE paced roughly and broke briefly over the concluding stages.
