Race 6 - WARD & SINCLAIR LTD MOBILE PACE
N Williamson (PAULA'S ON FIRE) defended a breach of Rule 869(3)(b) - Careless Driving. The Stewards alleged Mr Williamson drove carelessly when shifting ground outwards with approximately 150 metres to run forcing PAULA'S ON FIRE outwards onto BET ON JESS (K Barclay) which in turn checked RIFLEMAN (R Swain). After hearing evidence from the Stewards, Mr Williamson and Mrs Barclay, the JCA upheld the breach and Mr Williamson was fined $200.

Race 1 BISHOPDALE & BUSH INN TABS/TAVERN HAREWOOD MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
Trainer M Jones (MACHS A FLYIN) was charged a $25 Colour Fee.
FLORETA broke in the score up and was back off the gate at the dispatch.
VALHALLA broke free of interference passing the 600 metres and lost all chance.
MACH OF THE MAN was held up through the early stages of the run home.
SHARDS ASSASSIN ran out of racing room over the concluding stages.
When questioned regarding the apparent disappointing performance of TAIERI WINGS, trainer C Gerken advised that after settling at the back of the field this had not suited the gelding and he had only battled away over the final stages in a fast last 800 metres.
MATCH POINT broke late in the race due to a carrier strap breaking. The gear was inspected by the Stewards and found to be in previously good condition.
No claims were lodged in this event.
 
Race 2 DUNCAN AGRICULTURAL CONTRACTORS/OMAKAU AUTO MOBILE TROT Video  Video 
DARK OPS which was shown in some publications as drawn one on the second line was drawn two on the Unruly position with this information being disseminated to the public.
DARK OPS was well back off the gate at the dispatch by several lengths with HEARD THE WHISPER also off the gate at the dispatch.
DENN NEE NOSE BEST broke shortly after the start with HEARD THE WHISPER breaking when being restrained to avoid the breaking runner.
JAG'S SON and ONE YANKEE HALL both broke over the early stages with ONE YANKEE HALL also breaking again near the 1200 metres.
DARK OPS was obliged to race three wide for the majority of the race and gave ground from the 700 metres.
SUNNIVUE SADONA hung while racing in the parked position before breaking passing the 400 metres.
SNIPER trotted roughly rounding the final bend before breaking with approximately 250 metres to run.
RUBY'S JEWEL struck pylons nearing the 250 metres when attempting to improve inside the breaking SUNNIVUE SADONA which was hanging inwards.
Approaching the 100 metres TEHORO HOLLY trotted roughly when being driven out by driver R Holmes and had to be restrained.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of SPRINGBANK EDEN, the connections advised the gelding had appreciated the mobile start today after failing to go away from a stand in its recent races.
M Williamson advised he did not activate the removable deafeners on SPRINGBANK EDEN due to having the field covered.
 
Race 3 GALLAGHER FAMILY GOLD CUP/ALEXANDRA NIGHT'N DAY MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
FRANCO HAMMOND and LAKEISHA were both held up just prior to the home straight.
 
Race 4 BECKERS TRANSPORT/FLOORING XTRA JUNIOR DRIVERS MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
Permission was granted by the Stewards for Trials Horseman J Campbell (RAINBOW ROMANCE) to be upgraded to a Junior Horseman for the day due to the lack of available Junior Drivers.
Just after dispatch point RAINBOW ROMANCE broke and failed to settle for a considerable distance with VAN EVA having to shift wider on the track to avoid the breaking runner.
BOOTIE BROMAC raced wide without cover over the early stages.
VAN EVA paced roughly nearing the 700 metres.
KING LOUIE, SHARDS PHOENIX, SMART CAESAR and FRANCO ENVOY were all held up rounding the final bend.
SUE ME broke nearing the 200 metres when being steadied by driver R McIlwrick to obtain clear racing room.
M Neilson (SMART CAESAR) dropped her foot from the sulky foot-rest passing the 200 metres.
 
Race 5 LIFE MEMBERS MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
The start of this event was delayed due to the sulky on BILLY KLONDIKE having to be replaced after the gelding reared in the pre-race formation and bent the sulky shaft. BILLY KLONDIKE then broke early in the score up losing all chance. A warning was placed on the gelding's mobile barrier record.
LISABELLE paced roughly shortly after the start.
LISABELLE and MILLWOOD CHARITY both raced wide in the early stages.
FALCON ASSET hung outwards passing the 900 metres.
NOTHINGFORTHEMEDIA broke near the 900 metres losing its chance with driver N Williamson reporting NOTHINGFORTHEMEDIA had paced roughly throughout and failed to handle the track.
LISABELLE commenced to give ground from the 600 metres.
CAYENNE EL (K Larsen) also began to give ground near the 550 metres with PAULA'S ON FIRE (R May) striking the sulky tyre of that runner and breaking when R May attempted to improve on the inside of CAYENNE EL.
FALCON ASSET was denied racing room round the final bend and through the early stages of the run home.
TAKE A GAMBLE broke with 300 metres to run when attempting to push LISABELLE wider on the track.
When questioned regarding the breaking of PAULA'S ON FIRE, driver R May advised Stewards a gap had presented itself on the inside of CAYENNE EL (K Larsen) which he attempted to improve into. Driver K Larsen when questioned by the Stewards advised he was in the process of shifting three wide however CAYENNE EL had failed to respond and had shifted in slightly on the point of the bend despite his best efforts. After viewing replays and hearing both driver's explanations Steward's deemed no further action was required.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of WHOOSH FACTOR, the connections advised the Stewards the gelding had been performing well at recent workouts and had benefited from the drop in class of today's race.
When questioned regarding the performance of STAR SINGER, driver D Dunn advised the Stewards he had received every opportunity during the running and added he was surprised at the support shown for the mare today.
 
Race 6 SKEVINGTON CONTRACTING/LAUDER HOTEL HANDICAP TROT Video  Video 
NICAELA and OTTAWA both underwent pre-race veterinary examinations and were cleared to race.
PETITE ROYAL and OTTAWA both broke at the start.
After breaking at the start OTTAWA veered out sharply despite the efforts of driver J Dunn with this runner severely checking MOA BONES. As a result MOA BONES was forced onto the outside sand track effectively losing its chance and being retired from the event. The sulky shaft shifted over the rump of OTTAWA with this gelding also being retired from the event. The connections of OTTAWA were warned to improve the standing start manners of their gelding. The connections advised that OTTAWA had become very fired up today and they would be making gear alterations prior to the gelding's next start. Trainer Mr M Tapper further advised it was his intention to drive OTTAWA in its next start and he would be removing the Murphy Blind and changing the bit on the gelding.
NICAELA broke after approximately 200 metres.
LADY HEST broke while in the trailing position near the 1600 metres.
Approaching the 1200 metres ARMORI (G McLay) struck the sulky wheel of MALDARNA (R Close) and trotted roughly for a few strides. G McLay was warned for the manner he drove when allowing ARMORI to strike the sulky wheel of MALDARNA.
OUR BUDD broke with 600 metres to run briefly impeding the progress of HOLDON TOYASPURS.
STARLIGHT STARBRIGHT was held up when negotiating the final bend and through the early stages of the run home.
M Williamson advised he did not activate the removable deafeners on ZHENYA due to having the field covered.
When questioned regarding the performance of ONE TWO KENNY, driver B Williamson advised that the pace was on throughout the race and ONE TWO KENNY had tired over the latter stages but in his opinion the mare would gain benefit from today's race which was its first back from a spell.
 
Race 7 FULTON HOGAN/WEDDERBURN TAVERN MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
OUTA THE FRIDGE paced roughly racing into the first bend.
When questioned regarding the performance of favoured runner BETTER DELIVER, driver D Dunn felt that the gelding had gone well for a debut runner and he was not disappointed with the effort.
 
Race 8 ALEXANDRA SUPER LIQUOR/MACCA LODGE MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
INDEFINITE was slow to come out of the pre-race formation and was back several lengths at the dispatch.
Through the early stages both CERATO (J Cox) and THE SHAKEY MISTRESS (M Williamson) vied for the lead until M Williamson took a hold of THE SHAKEY MISTRESS after approximately 700 metres. After being restrained to take the trailing position THE SHAKEY MISTRESS commenced to race keenly.
THE SHAKEY MISTRESS tired from the 600 metres.
CERATO commenced to tire just prior to the 400 metres with TISBURY HARDLIFE being held up by the tiring runner.
TINTINARA veered outwards while leading just prior to straightening for the run home.
TISBURY HARDLIFE was further held up over the concluding stages by the tiring SPIRIT OF CHRONOS.
Stewards requested post-race veterinary examinations of both CERATO and THE SHAKEY MISTRESS which revealed no abnormalities with either runner.
Stewards opened and adjourned an inquiry into the manner J Cox (CERATO) and M Williamson (THE SHAKEY MISTRESS) drove through the early and middle stages of this race.
 
Race 9 W S HICKEY & SON LTD FFA MOBILE TROT Video  Video 
JACCKA JACK broke briefly in the score up.
AILE ROUGE (R Holmes) had to be restrained racing into the first bend when crossed by JACCKA JACK (J Cox) and VULCAN (B Butt) on its outer. After speaking to both J Cox and B Butt and viewing the replays both drivers were reminded of their obligations to ensure they leave sufficient room for runners on their inside.
EXPERIMENT raced keenly in the middle stages.
 
Race 10 MCLARENS TRANSPORT/RD PETROLEUM TROTTING CUP MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
HERE WE GO AGAIN raced wide without cover in the early stages.
JIVIN CULLEN raced keenly when being challenged for the lead passing the 1000 metres.
BETTOR'S BRIGADIER was denied clear racing room around the final bend and for the majority of the run home.
THE WRATH OF ROBYN hung inwards approaching the 200 metres and had to be steadied by driver C Ferguson losing its momentum.
BETTER TO BE BAD raced in restricted room in the home straight.
Following this event, driver B Orange (BELKMYSTER) reported he had received a punctured sulky tyre in the home straight however he did not apportion blame to any other horse or horseman.
 
Race 11 ALEXANDRA NEW WORLD/ANDREW MAY CONTRACTING MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
GROOMSMAN raced fiercely in the early stages.
The off side number on NICKY'S DYNAMIC came loose during the running.
ULTRA SHOK raced keenly through the early and middle stages.
GROOMSMAN again raced fiercely when surrendering the parked position near the 1200 metres.
Driver B Orange (CULLENS SPIRIT) briefly dropped his foot from the sulky foot-rest nearing the 600 metres.
ULTRA SHOK was held up for clear racing room rounding the final bend.
N Williamson advised COSTA DEL MAGNIFICO had paced roughly on the final bend and during the run home before breaking after crossing the finishing line and striking itself. Stewards requested a post-race veterinary examination of COSTA DEL MAGNIFICO which revealed the colt had suffered a minor abrasion to its near-side front coronet.
