Race 7 - HYDROFLOW betterheatingsolutions.co.nz MOBILE PACE
Following a protest against the 1st placing of MONTEREY JACK (J Dickie) and subsequent relegation by the JCA to 2nd placing in behind the promoted MASTER OF ESCAPE, Stewards lodged an information alleging J Dickie was in breach of the Passing Lane Regulations in that he failed to allow full access to the trailing MASTER OF ESCAPE into the passing lane. This information was lodged with the JCA and adjourned as Mr Dickie was not available.
Stewards heard submissions from Mr Dickie in relation to this incident. He stated that MONTEREY JACK raced with an easy steer device which had pulled through to the near-side resulting in the rein going under the gelding's jaw giving him serious steering issues. Stewards reviewed the video coverage of the race and this was confirmed. The JCA approved the Stewards application to withdraw the information.

No claims were lodged for DEBS PAL, WINSTONE P and VIEWFIELD APACHE.
MISS LARA broke approaching the first bend.
A protest was lodged against the 4th placing of CELTIC WARRIOR (T Thorby) on the grounds that this gelding impeded the progress of the 5th placed LISA'S LAWYER (J Kriechbaumer) when CELTIC WARRIOR failed to leave full access in the passing lane during the course of the run home. The JCA upheld the protest and CELTIC WARRIOR was relegated to 5th placing in behind LISA'S LAWYER.

After hearing the relative evidence and viewing the films, the charge was upheld and the JCA imposed a fine of $150.00.

Junior Horseman T Cameron (CTHEBALLERINA) was shown the replay in the presence of Senior Horseman Z Butcher and spoken to advisedly in relation to the manner in which he drove racing down the back straight on the first occasion when attempting to secure a position in the one out running line. CTHEBALLERINA was then obliged to remain three wide until crossing to race outside the leader near the 800 metres.

HOT MACH and HOT AND SAUCY were held up on the final turn with HOT AND SAUCY only securing clear racing room near the 50 metres.
BETTORS CARD and CHANGE GEAR were held up over the concluding stages when failing to obtain clear racing room.
Driver D Butcher (HOT MACH) was questioned in relation to the tactics adopted and in particular as to whether he may have been better served to have looked to improve during the middle stages when the tempo was moderate. Mr Butcher stated that HOT MACH had disappointed when required to work mid-race previously and for that reason connections had looked to drive the horse with cover where possible. Mr Butcher further stated that he did give some consideration to making a mid-race shift but was reluctant to do so and instead elected to look for a trail into the race however that did not occur. He further added that he had then improved forward onto the back of CHANGE GEAR on the final turn rather than attempt to improve wide as he expected that gelding to be able to shift BETTER KLIK wider to secure clear running but that did not occur and as a result he was then held up until the middle stage of the run home.
A subsequent veterinary examination of HOT MACH revealed no abnormalities.

After hearing the relative evidence of S Abernethy (DRAGON LADY), D Butcher (DOOR SLAMMER) and viewing the replays, blame could not be solely attributed to either driver and no further action was taken on this occasion.
OUR SUPER RAM hung in and contacted marker pegs near the 300 metres.
SAPPHIRE CASTLETON was held up rounding the final bend.
A protest was lodged against the 4th placing of OUR SUPER RAM (P Butcher) under Rule 870(3) and the Breaking Horses Regulation after this gelding failed to promptly regain its proper gait when galloping over the final 100 metres.
