Race Comments
Race 1 KUMEU VILLAGE REST HOME MOBILE PACE Video  Video
OUR SOUTHERN MAN was not claimed from this event.
An investigation was held into a check received by CHOKULLEN (S. Phillips), which was drawn barrier position 3, shortly after the start. CHOKULLEN was placed in tight quarters in between EASY FOR CULLEN, barrier position two, and HERE'S SHIFTY, barrier position four, which was racing inside HOWZAT. EASY FOR CULLEN (M. Northcott) was inclined to hang out while HOWZAT (J. Brownlee) shifted in momentarily after the start. Compounding the issue, the arm of the mobile gate was observed to protrude inside the marker line rounding the bend and into the straight prior to the start resulting in horses MCROYAL, EASY FOR CULLEN, and CHOKULLEN being half a position wider behind the mobile gate. After considering all these factors the Stewards took no action against any one driver, however, the starter and the driver of the mobile gate were shown the video coverage and asked to ensure that there would be no repetition and that the inside mobile barrier arm does not protrude inside the marker line.
An investigation was held into the driving tactics adopted by Advanced Amateur Horseman J. Kriechbaumer driving OUR SOUTHERN MAN. OUR SOUTHERN MAN was observed to race three wide for the first 1000 metres before crossing inward to race one out without cover. Mr Kriechbaumer was observed to activate gear with approximately 600 metres to run and OUR SOUTHERN MAN shifted wider on the track to be approximately five wide. Mr Kriechbaumer was advised that a higher standard of tactical appreciation will be required in his future drives and a higher degree of reinsmanship when activating gear. He was also advised that Stewards considered charging him under Rule 869(3)(a) (Incompetent Driving) and if a general improvement was not forthcoming, a recommendation would be made to the Area Licencing Committee to have his horseman's licence reviewed.
Driver W. Rich (LEROY BROGDEN) reported that he had sustained a punctured sulky tyre racing down the back the final time.

Race 2 NZ TROTTING HALL OF FAME HANDICAP TROT Video  Video
Trainers G. Rogerson and P. Blanchard were issued a Minor Infringement Notice and fined $100.00 for presenting THE SCRUFF to race without the notified removable deafeners.
MOMENT OF TRUTH was not claimed from this event.
MOMENT OF TRUTH had a tendency to lay in rounding the bends and trotted unevenly passing the 800 metres.
FRANCO NADAL broke passing the 400 metres losing its chance.
THE SCRUFF was shifted wider on the track to evade the galloping FRANCO NADAL and broke passing the 350 metres.

Race 3 BRETT MARSHALL FARRIER HANDICAP TROT Video  Video
STUEY D and ROCKY SIX both broke at the start and trailed the field throughout.
SHARDON'S PEARL and MEGASPEED broke shortly after the start with MEGASPEED losing all chance.
MY SECRET STRIDE broke passing the 1900 metres.
SHARDON'S PEARL broke passing the 600 metres.

Race 4 CINZ CONVENTIONS & INCENTIVES NZ MOBILE PACE Video  Video
RED SKY NIGHT was approximately half a length off the gate at the start. Junior Horseman J. Wallace was warned to maintain his position at the start.
DARJEELING BROMAC weakened within the last 400 metres.
Junior Horseman T. Hopkins, with the assistance of Senior Horseman B. Mangos, was spoken to advisedly with regard to the Push Out Rule when KURAHAUPO GAMBLER was improved from four deep on the running line outward inside of RED SKY NIGHT just prior to the 1000 metre mark.

Race 5 CADUCEUS CLUB HANDICAP PACE Video  Video
No horses were claimed from this event.
VENGEANCE and IMAJOLLYWALLY broke for several strides at the start.
SANDPARK SENATOR began badly and settled at the rear.
SANDPARK SENATOR galloped again passing the 2200 metres losing further ground.
WESTBURN COURAGE raced roughly for several strides near the 2100 metres after being crossed by BRYDON DELIGHT.
WESTBURN COURAGE (2nd place) raced over three pylons inside the 200 metres when attempting to improve in the passing lane. A Protest was lodged against the 2nd placing of WESTBURN COURAGE (P. Ferguson) under Rule 869(7B) on the grounds that this gelding's sulky protruded inside the track marker line for more than 30 metres in the early stages of the run home thereby gaining an unfair advantage. The J.C.A. upheld the Protest and WESTBURN COURAGE was disqualified from the race.
An associated charge under Rule 869(7A) (a) and (b) alleging that horseman P. Ferguson contacted track markers and allowed WESTBURN COURAGE'S sulky to protrude inside the marker line during the run home was admitted and the J.C.A. imposed a fine of $200.00.
Horseman S. Argue (VENGEANCE) was warned to correct his whip action.

Race 6 HORSELANDS KUMEU GRAIN MOBILE PACE Video  Video

Race 8 HUAPAI TAVERN MOBILE PACE Video  Video
CLOVELLY was caught three wide and then restrained toward the rear over the first 800 metres.
WISE GODDESS, which was one out without cover, raced keenly inside the 1200 metres and then approaching the winning post Horseman D. Butcher eased the filly which reacted greenly resulting in a chain reaction with the second line horses being eased. EL PROMISE contacted the back of the sulky of CHRISTY MAGUIRE which caused severe checks to BABY HOUSEMAN and ALIANTE with those two runners becoming entangled and eliminated from the race. An investigation into this incident established that no one horseman was at fault.
CHRISTY MAGUIRE hung badly throughout the run home resulting in the horse not being driven out to full advantage.
The release cord on the removable deafeners on MY LUCKY BELLE broke. Stewards inspected the gear and found the trainer not to be at fault.
Following the race the club's veterinarian examined BABY HOUSEMAN and ALIANTE. BABY HOUSEMAN suffered minor skin lacerations and abrasions.to its right fore and hind legs. ALIANTE sustained a minor cut to its right fore knee.
