Race 6 - BETTERTHANCHEDDAR AT ALABAR STUD MOBILE PACE
NICOLE VAIDISOVA which had shown gate speed to lead, broke near the 1200 metres and was taken down inside the peg line to avoid causing interference to trailing runners before settling at the rear. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.
Trainer A Matthews advised that the mare raced without an over-check in Race 6 on Thursday and would be racing with an over-check in Race 9 today.

DESERT STORM broke early in the score up losing considerable ground. A warning was placed on the racing manners record of this gelding.
AUSSIE JACK broke in the score up short of the start losing considerable ground. AUSSIE JACK broke again during the running and took no part. A warning was placed on the racing manners record of this gelding.
SUCCESSIONAL was slow away and approximately five lengths off the mobile gate at the start.
SUCCESS EXPRESS broke at the start as did CHILTONS VOCATION shortly after.
EARLS BULLER GIRL broke briefly approaching the 300 metres recovering only to break again taking evasive action around the galloping SUCCESSIONAL.

LIVELY SPIRIT broke for a few strides shortly after the start settling quickly at the rear of the field.
WAVE SONG paced erratically throughout the run home.
BOOMCHICKAWOWWOW was held up until inside the last 100 metres.
ANALEIGH failed to get clear racing room throughout the run home.
The favourite WONDER ANVIL attempted to lead the whole journey however weakened inside the last 50 metres to finish fifth.

AUMANGEA broke shortly after the start losing considerable ground and its chance. A warning was placed on the mobile barrier manners of this mare.
TUFF PLAYER paced roughly then broke losing five lengths when racing at the rear approaching the 1400 metres.
HEY KNOWITALL was held up rounding the final bend and throughout the run home.
LOCAL YOKEL failed to get clear racing room throughout the run home.
 
Race 4 TERRY BROTHERS HANDICAP TROT Video  Video 
Stewards late scratched COOL SON at 1.24 pm after horseman D Butcher advised that this gelding was lame in its preliminary. A subsequent veterinary inspection found the horse to be lame in the right foreleg. Stewards advised the connections that a veterinary certificate of fitness is required for COOL SON before its resumes.
MEANDER WITH PEGASUS broke for a couple of strides at the start.
EASY EMPRESS was slow away.
 
Race 5 SECURE DOCUMENT SERVICES/STEPTOES TYRES MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
No claims were lodged for PUREORA PAREE.
PUREORA PAREE was out of position by approximately two lengths at the start.
GWENDENE was held up for clear racing room until inside the last 80 metres.
EYRE HOSTESS failed to get clear racing room until inside the last 50 metres.
Horseman D Butcher was questioned in regard to his drive on MISS PEMBROKE. MISS PEMBROKE was racing in the trail in behind the leader LADY P approaching the passing lane. MISS PEMBROKE shifted ground outward and then failed to get clear racing room. Mr Butcher explained that the leader LADY P was beginning to weaken and as his mare wears a Murphy Blind on the offside the horse reacted better to him shifting outward rather than waiting for the passing lane. If he had attempted to move inward he would have had to fight the horse as the horse was inclined to hang outward. The Stewards accepted his explanation.
Graduation Horseman B Dickens was brought before the Stewards and reminded of his obligations to have PUREORA PAREE in its correct position behind the mobile barrier. Mr Dickens was also advised to correct his whip action.
An information was lodged alleging Driver B Dickens (PUREORA PAREE) failed to drive his horse out to the finish when having a reasonable chance of finishing in sole third position. PUREORA PAREE was placed 3rd by the judge in a dead heat with DASHING DANE. Driver B Dickens admitted the charge and the JCA suspended his horseman's licence up to and including the 9th of January 2014.

RIVERBOAT SUE was held up over the early and middle stages of the run home.
 
Race 7 ELDERS PRIMARY WOOL MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
BELLE DELIGHT broke when in tight quarters inside of EXTREME CARAT with 1500 metres to run and while in a gallop caused interference to CONCORD LASS both these horses settling at the rear of the field.
JOHNNY VEGAS when in the lead broke inconveniencing STARS STAR passing the 900 metres. JOHNNY VEGAS settled four deep on the running line. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing manners record.
CONCORD LASS weakened inside the last 500 metres.
An information was lodged alleging Horsewoman A Matthews drove EXTREME CARAT carelessly causing interference to BELLE DELIGHT (A Poutama) with resultant interference to CONCORD LASS with 1500 metres to run. The charge was admitted and the JCA imposed a $200 fine.
 
Race 8 SCHNAPPS BAR AT NATIONAL PARK WANGANUI CUP (HANDICAP PACE) Video  Video 
No claims were lodged for WYATT EARP.
There was a delay to the start after SHESTHEREALDEAL got its leg over the hopple prior to the start. SHESTHEREALDEAL was vetted and cleared to race.
A false start was declared when the 20 metre barrier strand was not released.
A further delay was caused by a second false start when the 10 metre barrier strand wrapped around the legs of SHESTHEREALDEAL.
PRINCE TUDOR swung sideways and was slow away.
PRIME LEGAL broke at the start settling toward the rear.
PLAYAWAY broke shortly after the start and while in a gallop locked sulky wheels with SHESTHEREALDEAL. SHESTHEREALDEAL losing considerable ground and PLAYAWAY taking no serious part in the race being pulled up.
An investigation was held into a perceived breach of the push out rule when STYX IT TO EM was improved outward by Horseman M McKendry from two wide to three wide and TAKE THE HINT (D Butcher) was perceived to race wider on the track. Horseman D Butcher advised that when he improved TAKE THE HINT forward the horse raced wider than expected allowing Horseman M McKendry to improve STYX IT TO EM on his inside and that his progress was not impeded in any way. After reviewing the video coverage Stewards accepted his explanation.
The Stewards reviewed the start of this event with Starter Mr Phillips and Starter's Assistant Mr Fleming and both were spoken to advisedly.The accumulated delays resulted in a 9 minute delay to the actual start of this event.
 
Race 9 PALAMOUNTAINS SCIENTIFIC NUTRITION MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
TWIN TOWERS was a late scratching in this event at 11.20 am with a Veterinary Certificate provided.
Stewards approved a notification of gear for PRINCESS KATE. This mare raced with blinds.
OUR WICKLOW broke early in the score up and was a considerable distance back at the start.
IDEALISTIC was slow to move away from the pre-race circle and was several lengths back at the start.
SMILING TACT became unbalanced travelling over the crossing and galloped causing interference to TAFADHALI. Both of these runners losing considerable ground.
OUR WICKLOW broke passing the 1300 metres. A warning was placed on this gelding's racing manners record.
