Race 1 LINDAUER LAWN AFTER DARK PARTY 14 FEBRUARY MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
THE BLACK broke causing a false start and checking GIVETHEJOBTOBARNSY. A warning was placed on the barrier record of THE BLACK. K Cox (THE BLACK) advised she would remain in barrier position 1 for the restart.
GRADUATE UNDER FIRE raced wide and without cover over the early stages before being taken forwards to lead near the 1400 metres.
REAL LIFE HERO over-raced during the middle stages until receiving cover near the 1500 metres from the improving STRAWB'S BETTER ACT.
BRUTE UTE ANVIL raced roughly near the 200 metres when improving in the passing lane.
FAIR DINKUM BROMAC had some difficulty obtaining clear racing throughout the middle stages of the run home.
When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of STRAWB'S BETTER ACT, trainer/driver N McGrath explained the gelding had been unsuited to working during the middle stages and because of this felt the horse was entitled to weaken on its run in the final stages.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of THATS BETTOR, driver D Dunn explained that the gelding had been unsuited to the Manawatu track surface at its most recent starts and won a trial well in preparation for this evening's race.
 
Race 2 IRT - 40 YEARS OF FLYING HORSES PACE Video  Video 
ROYAL FLIGHT and SPEEDY JACK began badly and settled at the rear.
WESTBURN JEWEL hung inwards on the first turn striking several pylons one of which was dislodged.
Racing towards the 2200 metres FIRST FLIGHT IN had to be steadied when awkwardly positioned to the inside of MIDFREW TARPEDIEM.
ROYAL FLIGHT hung throughout when racing at the rear of the field. A warning was placed on the racing performance of ROYAL FLIGHT.
Passing the 400 metres HESTIA FRANCO hung inwards which resulted in the mare being held up for a short distance.
WESTBURN JEWEL broke near the 200 metres losing all chance.
FIRST FLIGHT IN was held up for clear running late in the run home.
 
Race 3 HYDROSERVICES MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
ALAN GOLIGHTLY began badly and trailed the field throughout. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed the gelding had suffered a laceration to the rear of the fetlock on the off-side front leg. A veterinary clearance will be required prior to resuming.
Racing towards the 400 metres ZEBADEE broke when attempting to improve on the inside of TRADITIONAL which shifted down the track. Stewards questioned drivers S Ottley (ZEBADEE) and G Craw (TRADITIONAL) regarding this incident. After considering the explanations of both drivers and viewing the films, Mr Craw admitted a breach of Rule 869(3)(b) alleging this incident had been caused as a result of his careless driving. After taking submissions on penalty the JCA imposed a fine of $250.
FRANCO SANCHEZ which raced parked throughout weakened passing the 300 metres.
BOOMER BAILEY broke passing the 200 metres.
 
Race 4 WOODLANDS STUD - PEGASUS SPUR HANDICAP TROT Video  Video 
QUALITY INVASION raced roughly when under pressure over the final 700 metres.
FREE BIRD (S Ottley) broke near the 300 metres when crowded for racing room between VALMAGNE (C DeFilippi) and LIVE THE DREAM (G O'Reilly) which was shifting outwards. Stewards questioned G O'Reilly and S Ottley regarding this incident. After speaking with drivers and viewing the films, Mr O'Reilly pleaded guilty to an associated charge under Rule 869(3)(b) with the JCA imposing a fine of $250.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of UNCAS, driver J Dunn was at a loss to explain the performance. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a slow recovery and showing possible signs of tying up. Trainer R Dunn advised he would have his personal vet examine UNCAS in the coming days. Mr Dunn was informed a clearance would be required prior to UNCAS resuming.
 
Race 5 BISHOPDALE/BUSH INN TABS & TAVERN HAREWOOD MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
STANS DAY raced roughly in the score up and was a length out of position in consequence. Stewards advised the connections that a warning had been placed on the gelding's barrier record.
MATCH POINT raced wide throughout.
Racing towards the 850 metres STANS DAY shifted outwards which in turn took FRANCO TYRONE wider on the track and as a result these horses locked wheels for several strides. In consequence to this DATA BASE and VALHALLA were briefly hampered.
BILLY JACK weakened passing the 300 metres inconveniencing REDMARO who was held up.
STANS DAY shifted up the track under pressure over the final stages.
Driver M Hallett had difficulty in activating the removable gear on BATINI. Stewards spoke with Ms Hallett regarding this and advised her that in future she would be better served to desist with her attempts to activate the gear and to commence to drive her horse out given the circumstances.
 
Race 6 AMALGAMATED FOOD DISTRIBUTORS LTD MOBILE TROT Video  Video 
SUENO broke in the score up losing considerable ground. This mare broke again approaching the first turn and trailed the field throughout.
FILIGREE SHEREE (C Ford) and HEZA MIGHTY MONARCH (N McGrath) were both back from position at despatch. C Ford and N McGrath will be spoken to regarding this in the coming days.
PAINT THE MOON and MONKEY LUCK locked wheels for some strides leaving the back straight the final time after contesting for a position in the one out running line.
LISA MARIE P was inconvenienced briefly on several occasions racing down the back the final time before galloping near the 500 metres when being restrained off the back of BIG EARS which was tiring.
Driver C Thornley advised BIG EARS had hung severely during the running with a post race veterinary examination revealing no abnormalities. Trainer M Larter advised he would give consideration to sending BIG EARS for a spell.
When questioned with regards to the performance of SUCCESSFUL WOMAN, driver D Dunn reported that the mare had over-raced in the early stages which had taken its toll.
 
Race 7 CHRISTIAN CULLEN MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
A false start was declared at the first attempt when NATURAL COURAGE broke late in the score up checking SMOKIN CHICK. Junior Horseman J Harrington elected to remain in his allocated 1 barrier position. A warning was placed on the mobile barrier record of NATURAL COURAGE.
MACH DENARIO broke for several strides near the 1300 metres.
Racing towards the 600 metres MUSIC which was held up behind the tiring NATURAL COURAGE improved to a position inside that runner with both horses then subsequently tightened. In consequence to this tightening NATURAL COURAGE locked wheels with ARES which had also begun to tire with the trailing MACH DENARIO and ZAKSPATROL severely inconvenienced. Stewards questioned drivers of NATURAL COURAGE (J Harrington), MUSIC (J Young) and ARES (A Veint) regarding the incident where it was determined that NATURAL COURAGE and ARES had raced greenly under pressure and locked wheels for a considerable distance. Notwithstanding this Stewards advised driver J Young that in future it was expected she make a better effort when attempting to improve her position in similar circumstances.
 
Race 8 LAMB & HAYWARD MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
LEWY RISK broke in the score up losing considerable ground. A warning was placed on the gelding's mobile barrier record.
Approaching the 1200 metres WOODLEA LEGEND which had been over racing commenced to give ground near the 900 metres and was retired from the event A subsequent veterinary examination revealed the horse to have choked down. Stewards placed a warning on the racing manners of the gelding. A veterinary clearance including results of an examination will be required prior to the gelding resuming.
