Races 2,3,5,7 and 8 on today's programme had their drivers allocated by ballot as part of the ‘Brothers' Invited Drivers challenge. As a result, drivers N Williamson and K Barron were permitted to drive horses other than those trained by themselves in races 2, 3, 5 and 8.
DWINDLE MIST (Race 5) was re-handicapped to 20 metres after winning at the Invercargill HRC's Meeting yesterday.
Trainer B Negus advised Stewards that he intended to race MUSIC further forward circumstances permitting. This information was disseminated through the appropriate channels.

Trainer B Negus reported to Stewards that subsequent to its last race GERALD was found to be suffering from muscle tie-up and has since been treated by his Veterinarian.

Race 1 - SIM'S BAKERY TROT
Trainer D Ross contacted Stewards and advised that blood tests taken from MON RICHIE revealed that the gelding was suffering from muscle tie-up. He added that MON RICHIE has since been treated by his Veterinarian and sent for a brief spell

Junior Horseman T Lethaby (STORM MAGUIRE) was shown the films of the concluding stages and was cautioned regarding his whip action.

Race 1 WAITAKI WOODTURNERS GUILD/MONARCHY TROT Video  Video 
HENGROEN broke briefly at the start.
TORPEDO RUN broke at the start and again during the running.
PRINCE GEORGE and JAG'S SON broke shortly after the start.
FIERY MOUNTAIN GIRL broke nearing the 1600 metres.
OVERSTAYER broke approaching the 700 metres.
GRACE LIGHTNING broke with 150 metres to run.
Driver P Williamson was questioned regarding the lack of vigour he showed over the concluding stages when driving HENGROEN. Mr Williamson explained that given his gelding's tendency to break when under pressure and given the fact that it was trotting roughly at this stage of the race he was of the opinion that had he applied any more pressure to his runner it would have broken. After viewing the replays Mr Williamson's explanation was accepted.
 
Race 2 FAT SALLY'S PUB & RESTAURANT DRIVERS SERIES MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
FERNLEIGH HANNAH had a warning placed on its racing record after it broke racing over the crossing resulting in SANDVIK STAR, PRIVATE JONES, OLDE OAKE ARNIE and BABY FERN being checked with BABY FERN breaking and losing its chance in the event.
OLDE OAKE ARNIE was inclined to hang inwards passing the 1000 metres.
SANDVIK STAR had a warning placed on its racing record after it paced roughly and broke nearing the 700 metres with this resulting in ALTAR EGO which was trailing coming into contact with its sulky wheel causing it to come off its rim. FERNLEIGH HANNAH was also inconvenienced in this event. Horseman L O'Reilly (SANDVIK STAR) advised the gelding had paced roughly throughout.
SPEEDSKI paced roughly nearing the 200 metres and broke shortly afterwards. Horseman M Williamson could offer no reason for this break.
Horseman D Butcher's (GERALD) foot slipped from the sulky footrest nearing the 200 metres.
 
Race 3 FAT SALLY'S PUB & RESTAURANT DRIVERS SERIES TROT Video  Video 
ZHENYA, BIG EARS and PRICE OF FAME broke in the early stages.
SPLASH COLA broke shortly after the start.
NICAELA broke passing the 1600 metres when negotiating the crossing.
BEYOND A JOKE broke approaching the 1000 metres.
Driver K Barron (SARAH PALIN) briefly dropped his foot from the sulky rest passing the 150 metres when activating the sliding blinds.
WILLIE SHINE trotted roughly in the run home.
MONKEY LUCK was held up through the early stages of the run home.
 
Race 4 OSTLER WINES MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
GOLDCREST had a warning placed against it after it struck several track markers when racing into the first bend. Several markers were dislodged with these coming back and striking CHANTREY. GOLDCREST then broke nearing the 1200 metres checking CHANTREY which broke losing several lengths and inconveniencing CAESAR'S EMPIRE, MAGOOGAN and BABY FERN. When spoken to regarding the wayward tendencies of GOLDCREST, horseman G Smith advised he was having difficulty steering the gelding during the initial stages of the race and he advised the connections would be making significant gear changes prior to the next start.
MAVERICK and DAG AND WASHINGTON both struck a track marker nearing the 1200 metres.
FERN FEVER and CHANTREY momentarily locked wheels nearing the 250 metres.
CAESAR'S EMPIRE (B Orange) broke nearing the 800 metres. This gelding broke again nearing the 200 metres after being eased wider on the track by MAGOOGAN (S Golding). Stewards questioned drivers B Orange and S Golding (assisted by J Dunn) in relation to this incident where it was established that the inside sulky wheel of CAESAR'S EMPIRE and outside sulky wheel of MAGOOGAN had come together when MAGOOGAN was being eased outwards to make a run. The sulky wheel of MAGOOGAN then protruded outwards abruptly after it had progressed forward past CAESAR'S EMPIRE's wheel due to MAGOOGAN travelling better at the time. After hearing from all parties no action was warranted other than to remind Mr Golding of his obligations when shifting ground.
 
Race 5 FAT SALLY'S PUB & RESTAURANT DRIVERS SERIES HANDICAP TROT Video  Video 
DWINDLE MIST underwent a pre-race Veterinary examination and was cleared fit to start.
DWINDLE MIST, LE GARCON and GLENDALOCH broke at the start with GLENDALOCH continuing on in a gallop for the entire event.
Driver L O'Reilly reported that GLENDALOCH had been striking his sulky wheels when in a break. Trainer B White was advised that GLENDALOCH must trial satisfactorily on one occasion prior to resuming.
FACE VALUE paced away obliging horseman J Abernethy to check this mare into its correct gait.
DAVEY'S GIFT broke racing into the first bend.
DWINDLE MIST again broke when negotiating the crossing passing the 1600 metres.
NGAIRE MARGARET broke nearing the 600 metres causing a check to CHIOLA BELLE.
LE GARCON broke nearing the 400 metres.
CHIOLA BELLE paced nearing the 300 metres with horseman R Payne obliged to check this runner.
 
Race 6 KEVIN GREANEY MEMORIAL HANDICAP PACE Video  Video 
MACH'S GLADIATOR raced with no hind shoes after one had become displaced in the stable area.
QUICK AS A TRICK and STERNS ARISING broke briefly as the start was effected.
Horseman R Holmes had difficulty activating the removable deafeners on LIVE LEA rounding the final turn.
DESTINED FOR GLORY and STERNS ARISING were held up for clear racing room through the early and middle stages of the run home.
STERNS ARISING (J Dunn) was placed in restricted room between DESTINED FOR GLORY (S Golding) and ROXY BROMAC (J Young) nearing the 100 metres with driver J Dunn (STERNS ARISING) having to restrain his horse. Driver S Golding, who declined to have a senior driver present, was fined $300.00 by the J.C.A after admitting he drove carelessly when shifting ground causing STERNS ARISING to be checked.
The all clear was delayed until Stewards viewed all video replays of the start and were satisfied that MOTU SPEEDY STAR (K Butt) had not been denied a fair start when standing side on when the start was effected. This was confirmed by Horsewoman Miss Butt and Trainer E Latimer.
When questioned regarding the performance of THE PACMAN horsewoman S Ottley advised that the horse had travelled well throughout however had failed to respond when placed under pressure in the final straight. A subsequent Veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
Race 7 FAT SALLY'S PUB & RESTAURANT DRIVERS SERIES MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
IRISH KATH paced roughly when negotiating the crossing.
MOSSDALE MAJOR hung inwards rounding the final turn inconveniencing the trailing CHIEF KAPAI and IRISH KATH and contacted several markers.
CHIEF KAPAI, IRISH KATH, ELBEAU and XMAS IN NEW YORK were held up for clear racing room through the early stages of the run home.
Horseman K Barron (ELBEAU) advised he had sustained a flat tyre when held up for racing room when nearing the 240 metres.
Horseman G Payne (DELIGHTFUL DASH) was fined $200.00 by the J.C.A after he admitted he used his whip in an excessive manner in the run home.
 
Race 8 FAT SALLY'S PUB & RESTAURANT DRIVERS SERIES MOBILE PACE Video  Video 
DONEGAL JIMMY DAVE broke passing the 1600 metres after negotiating the crossing.
ONE OUT OF FOUR was held up for clear racing room rounding the final bend.
Horseman J Abernethy (SCOTLYNN MACH) was fined $200.00 by the J.C.A after he admitted he used his whip in an excessive manner over the concluding stages.
 
Race 9 BALLANTYNES SHOWCASE JEWELLERS PACE Video  Video 
OMIHI EL and MILLWOOD CHARITY broke at the start.
STAGGER LEE and LUCY HOLMES tangled briefly as the start was effected.
DANNY DEL VITO broke at the start and again nearing the 100 metres.
ALL NUTS N BOLTS and DREAMCOAT jostled for a position negotiating the first bend. Junior horseman J Anderson (ALL NUTS N BOLTS) was shown the films and cautioned for the manner in which he drove at this stage of the race.
JESSICA SANCHEZ broke briefly near the 1200 metres inconveniencing MILLWOOD CHARITY and OMIHI EL after there was a slight easing of the pace.
JESSICA SANCHEZ then hung outwards and broke nearing the 700 metres severely checking OMIHI EL. Horseman G O'Reilly was of the opinion that this filly had choked down. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed the filly had recovered normally. A warning was placed on the racing manners of JESSICA SANCHEZ.
CHAUHAN, MILLWOOD CHARITY and MAXIMUS PRIME were held up for clear racing room over the early stages of the run home.
 
Race 10 CHANGEOVER/SOUTHERN WINES PACE Video  Video 
VEECEWAH and INDIAN ARROW came together as the start was effected.
SHE'S GOT IT and SPECIAL DELIGHT broke at the start.
VEECEWAH broke just prior to the crossing at the 1600 metres and again nearing the 1400 metres.
UAINTSEENNOTHINYET broke just prior to the crossing at the 1600 metres checking SHE'S GOT IT and SPECIAL DELIGHT. A warning was placed on the racing manners of UAINTSEENNOTHINYET.
INDIAN ARROW, SUNNIVUE BAY BOY and CANNDEW were held up for clear racing room during the early stages of the race home.
When questioned regarding the performance of UAINTSEENNOTHINYET horseman K Barron reported that it had lost all concentration after breaking.
