McKendry was questioned regarding the performance of HUGHIE GREEN (favourite) which improved around three wide with cover during the middle stages to lead near the 1000 metres before handing up to CHANGE STRIDE racing down the back straight the final time. HUGHIE GREEN then failed to run on finishing in 5th place, beaten three lengths. Mr McKendry stated that although HUGHIE GREEN had worked during the middle stages to secure the lead, he was disappointed with the gelding's performance. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed no abnormality. | |

FRANCO NELSON (favourite) after beginning moderately was restrained back to the rear entering the back straight the first time before improving forward three wide from the 1200 meters. FRANCO NELSON then crossed to race outside the leader near the 600 metres but only battled in the run home to finish in 5th place beaten 2.6 lengths. When questioned regarding the performance Driver J. Dunn stated that FRANCO NELSON had failed to show its normal gate speed and had then paced roughly on the final turn before being unable to make up any ground over the final stages. Mr Dunn further advised that FRANCO NELSON had pulled up well and recovered normally following the event. | |
