NICHOLAS CAGE - broke at the start losing ground. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier manners. Commenced to over-race middle stages before pacing roughly after contacting the sulky wheel of OLD TOWN ROAD near the 1550m due to an easing of the pace.

OLD TOWN ROAD - fractious prior to the start and was back from position after being crowded by an outside runner. Authorisation of placings was withheld until Stewards had spoken to driver Z Butcher who advised he had not been denied a fair start as his horse had contributed to this when being fractious due to the delay.

OLD TOWN ROAD - broke at the start losing ground. When questioned regarding the performance driver Z Butcher advised the gelding had to work hard through the early stages after breaking at the start and considering this he was not disappointed with the performance. Authorisation of 5th placing was withheld until Stewards were satisfied that the gelding had complied with the Breaking Horses Regulation.

ALLAMERICANLOVER - raced keenly through the middle stages. All clear was withheld to enable Stewards to view the replays of the run home with Driver J Dickie to ascertain whether there were grounds for a protest against the 2nd placing of LIFES A BEACH after these two runners came together on several occasions in the run home. It was established that any inconvenience to ALLAMERICANLOVER had been minimal until passing the 50m when both horses shifted ground contributing to the contact between sulkies which resulted in ALLAMERICANLOVER losing some momentum. Stewards and Mr Dickie were satisfied that there weren't sufficient grounds for a protest and placings were duly authorised.
